Ethical Peruvian Caramel Calcite

Peruvian Caramel Calcite is a color variation of calcite. which can be distinguished by its range of brown, amber, and tan hues resulting from trace mineral inclusions and geological conditions during formation. After chemical testing, we know that Caramel Calcite® is a limestone formed by extremely fine calcite grains settling on the seafloor hundreds of millions of years ago. The different shades of brown are layers of grains with slightly different sizes. The mixed-up pattern originates from small microcurrents swirling up the layers before the grains finally settle.

This decorative stone has a beautiful polish and shows a slight phosphorescence. Under UV light, the whitish contents of the stone do increase their contrast, and after switching off the UV light, they do show a weak green afterglow (phosphorescence).

Founded in 2017 by biologist and professional nature conservationist Stefan Austermühle, Gemrock was born to be more than just a crystal wholesale business. • Gemrock employees are paid fair salaries higher than the industry average. They are hired under legal labor contracts with all legally required labor benefits. Excellent work is motivated with bonuses and our employees get a share of the company’s annual profits.
• Hiring is independent of any non-work related factors (gender, skin color, nationality, or else). Only knowledge and labor quality do matter.

• Saving water and energy, and re-using and recycling materials to the maximum is an ongoing effort.
• We constantly measure our carbon footprint and neutralize our climate impact by financing a tree-planting project.
