What is the difference?

Jewelry-grade: A tumbled stone not for everyone!

Our jewelry-grade tumbled stones are made one by one in-house by our own staff. We produce tumbled stones of superior beauty that our retail clients can enjoy for years to come. We do reshape all our tumbled stones piece by piece by hand in order to make them look exactly like a pebble would look after ocean waves and river currents have shaped and tumbled it naturally.

All our tumbled stones are well-shaped with a perfect polish and completely scratch-free.

All our tumbled stones can be easily used to produce high-quality jewelry, and we do make such jewelry for you, too.

Jewelry makers can order our tumbled stones with drilled holes or undrilled.

Tumbled stones are called like this because they are produced in tumbling machines and with mass finish. This machine-based process aims to imitate the natural carving process in the environment (rivers and beaches) that produces the rounded beach pebbles that we all loved to collect as children. While this is easy to do with hard stones, many Peruvian materials, however, do not allow for using tumblers, because they are so soft or fractured that they would simply break or end up completely scratched after such a process. Therefore, in Peru, tumbled stones are mostly made by hand and piece by piece by artisan workshops.

When making tumbled regular tumbled stones, artisan workers use the cut-offs from other production processes. Also, the workers are paid by the kilo. For them, speed is of the essence. The more they produce per day, the more they earn. The only way to be fast is to reduce quality:

Shape quality is Peruvian artisan standard, lower than our in-house-made jewelry-grade tumbled stones.
